You Won't Live Without
Contouring and Highlighting
Contouring and Highlighting are amazing techniques that once you learn, you will always wonder why you never thought of it before. By just applying your foundation and powder, you are leaving your face flat and one color. By contouring and highlighting certain parts of your face, you are creating depth and drama. It is a way to give the illusion to having a narrow structured face. The key to both contouring and highlighting is to blend. If you do not blend out the harsh lines on your face, you will just look dirty. Below are a few products and a guideline diagram of how to achieve this look. (Products listed at the bottom of the page.)
Matching Your Foundation Color
A common mistake when picking a foundation color is imagining yourself as darker than you actually are. I have heard so many girls say that they want to look tanner so they just purchase a darker foundation... yeah, it makes no sense at all! The girls who try that ended up with the dreaded "Foundation Line". To avoid that embarrassment, make a smarter choice when it comes to make up. If you want to be tan then invest in a self tan or spray then match your foundation to the result color. Remember, you want your face to match the rest of your body so when you contour it looks more natural and flawless. A trick for knowing which shade to pick is to always match your foundation to your collar bone and chest for the truest color. Tip : Always sweep your foundation down your neck and blend for a flawless finish.
Know Your Face Shape
Trying to figure out which face shape you have is more important than many girls realize. Yes, it is fun to try and figure out at a sleepover while flipping through Seventeen magazine but it actually determines much more than you know. First and foremost, you need to know which face shape you have by using the chart above. There are a few other rare shapes that you might be, but I just added the most common. After finding out your shape, we are now going to figure out certain ways to flaunt the shape you have. You probably did not know this but this determines which way you should part your hair! Here is a list : 1. Oval - You guys are the lucky ones! You can part your hair any way you want and it will frame out your face perfectly. 2. Heart - If you have long hair, a center part will look best. If you have shorter hair, stick with a side part! 3. Circle - a side part will narrow the face a little and make it look less round. 4. Square - The same goes for square as did for the circle, side part. Your shape not only affects your hair but also your makeup; The way you contour/highlight and the way your eyebrows are shaped. ( Click the links to see diagrams of how to change your makeup according to the shape you are.) And Lastly, you definitely wouldn't think of this, but your shape affects which sunglasses you should wear! I created a diagram below to show which sunglasses look best.
